Its Been a long time since I’ve blogged. I need to more. This week has been good considering some bumps. Working my recovery program is hard. There are a lot of things inside of my daily routine that I aim to complete. Some days nothing gets done and weeks like this week are different. Many steps get taken to heal. It makes life a lot easier but harder at the same time because you are facing the pain.
Mindfulness. Mindfulness is what I would say is my biggest goal in life. As a person with Bipolar disorder, I’ve struggled to tame my mind. To tame my mind into a functioning part of me like say my hand. My hand always does what I need it to but I can’t count on my mind to do the same. Eckhart Tolley says we can watch our mind and become present by doing so. I hope to learn this and practice it daily.
Hurt. My wife hurts so much. Sometimes it seems that my wife and I are broken magnets that do not know how to attract correctly. Sometimes the magnets slip and grab on to each other with extreme force. Other times they flip and repel. I bring up hurtful history that causes pain. My wife became upset with me. I figured out what I was doing soon after our last hurt episode. I stab my wife with pain and then say, “What’s your problem”. I was able to be mindful this time. At first I became defensive. Then I stepped back like a boxer into the corner. I collected my feelings. I stayed present. As the bell rang I stepped back into to the ring like a flower bringing peace. I was able to see the pain I had just caused. I calmed down long enough to do my best to help the wounded. Not shake salt and watch pain hurt. I love her.
Recovery. Yesterday’ s SAA meeting was awesome. It’s interesting that a group of men that are all sex addicts are in a room to help each other heal from basically the sex crimes they have perpetrated. You would think that there would be discussion about sex but that is not the case. The discussion is a blue print on how to navigate life. That is what I learn in the room located in a Catholic Church every Tuesday.
I became a sponsor yesterday. I asked a long time member if he thought I could be a sponsor. He said I was ready. I’ve been working with one of the members. I asked him if I could sponsor him. He accepted. I am super happy to start helping others. Helping this young man will help me as well. All good stuff.
Tony (long time member, named changed) shared at the end of the meeting and brought all of the shares together. Basically the theme was guilt and shame. His words give hope to the guys that are new to SAA. The also inspires me to stay the course. I truly love this man and he has given many gifts to my recovery in the last 20 months. I thank him. If you suffer from sex addition, go to a SAA meeting.
Honey I love you.
